SULTANA KHAN
Social media is not good for my mental health, so I do not use it. I maintain a limited presence on LinkedIn, but I am admittedly very bad at it! The best ways to reach me are email or through Google Voice at (802) 276-0528.

Meet Sultana
New England-based non-profit leader, facilitator, and writer.
I have been working to improve the systems that are meant to support young people, families, and communities for nearly two decades. As a former teacher, non-profit director, program manager, curriculum builder, and current person in recovery, I have spent most of my adult life exploring how we can build better relationships with ourselves, with each other, organizationally, and in community.
This includes creating and facilitating accessible workshops on topics that help us build healthier, more connected communities, helping organizations name and build policies around their values, and supporting institutions as they decide to take action about the serious and pressing issues we must address together.

As I continue on this path, currently in the role of Executive Director at YWCA Vermont, two questions are guiding me in 2026 in all of my work with clients, partners, and young people. 1.) What skills do I bring to this critical moment? 2.) How can I build hope as a practice? I welcome your thoughts about what this question means to you!

TRAININGS
"I have been lucky enough to see Sultana present and work with her. She can quickly unite the room with her warm welcoming energy, engaging back-and-forth and her contagious smile. Her poise allows her to be able to handle complex and sensitive subjects while also being able to shut down behaviors in a group that harm the experience. Working with Sultana is a wonderful experience I cannot recommend enough! She’s well collected, a good listening, and knows her and others’ strong suits. Her facilitating styles tend to be very back forth and visual, creating a wonderful experience for both large and small groups so that people can engage to their comfort levels. She is a wonderful assist to any team or group looking for a natural leader filled with empathy, compassion, love, and knowledge!"

"I recently hired Sultana as a consultant for one of my projects and she blew me away with both her extensive knowledge of cultural practices and histories as well as her compassion for her students and clients. She pulls no punches in correcting errors and pointing out biases without ever losing sight of the needs of the project. This is Sultana's greatest gift - all her recommendations not only served the goals of equity, they also made my work objectively stronger and better. I can't wait to work with her again, not only because of her skills and expertise, but also because on top of every other wonderful thing, she makes me laugh so, so much."

"Sultana is both a dynamic and well-informed trainer. I've learned volumes from her trainings but it hardly felt like work as she embedded the lessons in fun activities. She is able to tailor her trainings to suit any kind of audience, youth and adults, veterans and newcomers alike. She helps audiences feel safe enough to contribute which makes the material more accessible for everyone. I appreciate learning from her as a woman of color because I'm able to think about things in a way I hadn't before and it has allowed me to change the way I work with youth and communities. Sultana presents material in such a way that allows the audience to arrive at a conclusion in their own time without feeling rushed and while being able to absorb all of the information. As a person who takes some time to process new information, I appreciate trainers who allow me to ask questions and give me time to comprehend what they're presenting. I always felt comfortable asking Sultana questions and walked away time and again with new tools to use in my day to day work."
